Lymphomas form a heterogeneous group of diseases as regards aggressiveness, need of care and prognosis. In some disease types the treatment should be started without delay, whereas others may not need care at all.Adults with generalized lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly or an enlarged lymph node (> 2 cm) that does not decrease in size during a follow-up of one month should be referred for biopsy to a specialist centre with good pathology services. If a patient has prolonged symptoms after treatment of lymphoma, thorough investigations are indicated to rule out recurrence. Consider the possibility of late adverse effects of treatment (early menopause, hypothyroidism, cardiac disease, certain infections and secondary malignancies).
