The definitive history of the first 30 years of heavy metal, containing over 100 interviews with members of Black Sabbath, Metallica, Judas Priest, Twisted Sister, Slipknot, Kiss, Megadeth, Public Enemy, Napalm Death, and more.

More than 30 years after Black Sabbath released the first complete heavy metal album, its founder, Ozzy Osbourne, is the star of The Osbournes, TV's favourite new reality show. Contrary to popular belief, headbangers and the music they love are more alive than ever. Yet there has never been a comprehensive book on the history of heavy metal - until now. Featuring interviews with members of the biggest bands in the genre, Sound of the Beast gives an overview of the past 30-plus years of heavy metal, delving into the personalities of those who created it. Everything is here, from the bootlegging beginnings of fans like Lars Ulrich (future founder of Metallica) to the sold-out stadiums and personal excesses of the biggest groups. From heavy metal's roots in the work of breakthrough groups such as Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin to MTV hair metal, courtroom controversies, black metal murderers and Ozzfest, Sound of the Beast offers the final word on this elusive, extreme, and far-reaching form of music.

Ian Christie, the author recounts over 350 pages, one of the musical developments that shaped the heavy metal. I say one of them because this is going to taste, and if Christie explains how blues rock from Black Sabbath English born and then came (almost) everything else, some will insist that everything had its roots in the progressive rock of late 60 or who seeks the origins of hard rock and psychedelia ... funny thing is that maybe all was right. In any case, as I said, the author of "The Sound of the Beast" insists that originated in England in the late sixties with bands like TEN YEARS AFTER CREAM or giving the push to arise BLACK SABBATH and from these, everything else. Of course having started from this premise, the rest of the paper focuses on the most intense and dark business. Index of the work. Metal, metal and more metal ... but the hard eh? Just read the index page to appreciate the little space in this book for bands melodic hard rock or American: Van Halen, Journey, Bon Jovi and Def Leppard are not just actors. Instead, the thrash, the NWOBHM, black metal and even hardcore and grindcore, have their own chapter, with all the good and bad of that. Some might think that it was time to find the less commercial side of the scene and who can not accept a history of heavy metal without Dokken, Foreigner and Cinderella ... Again, it is a point of view as valid as anyone else, but I can not resist saying that, personally, I am pleased that they will appreciate the groundwork. Not all lawyers are wearing ties and large corporations also grew heavy metal-based models and fanzines. Misunderstand: I do not mean to overlook such important scenes like Los Angeles, much less, in fact exclusivamete a chapter devoted to it, is simply that the book does not adhere to it. The constant references to the underground I would also point out the way it is raised and writing. On the one hand, you can take the book in your hands and read it or pull, as if it were a trial, and on the other hand, you can skip two chapters, read the second last because you are more interested in and then return to the second, because " The sound of the beast "is written in a very clever way. It uses a chronological method starting from the 60's until our days (well, the first half of the 2000's) but will focus the story blocks, which, on one hand makes reading more dynamic and the other to be used as work consultation or, as I said before, to read the pull. In the end, that does not seem that I am a friend of the editor or ercentage Lleo give me a couple of details that are not as they should in mimodesta accurate opinion. One is that I missed (and this, and personally speaking) not make the slightest mention of Deep Purple, which is really strange in a book on hard rock. We agree that Blackmore and company never did anything even remotely similar to heavy metal but hey, are a mainstay of everything that came later .... A book more than acceptable to show that he cares about the roots and ramifications of heavy metal in less commercial side.
