Aims to examine two problems arising from the presence of oil deposits in the South China Sea: the first relating to national ownership and the second to the systems used in development of deposits. The oil crisis will spur development of oil resources in the region for local use and export despite the present decline in activities off Malaysia and Indonesia. in 4 chapters: 'The Geology and Physiography of the Region', 'Problems of Ownership of Oil Deposits: The Exercise of Sovereignty over the Continental Shelves and over Islands', 'Oil Exploitation and Economic Nationalism' and 'Conclusion'. Mr. Roderick O'Brien currently in Australia, is a lawyer, and has lectured in the University of Hong Kong. this publication was initially prepared for his M.A. degree at the University of Hong Kong. He has publicised articles in law journals in Australia and Hong Kong on comercial law and landlord and tenant law.
