Born and raised in Mexico City, Dr. Pe a graduated from the Military Medical School of Mexico. He trained in surgery and pediatrics at the Military Hospital of Mexico City and obtained further training in pediatric surgery at Children s Hospital Boston. Subsequently, he accepted the position of Chief of Surgery at the National Institute of Pediatrics and Professor of Surgery at the Autonomous University of Mexico. Thirteen and a half years later he was recruited as a Chief of Surgery at Schneider Children s Hospital, in Long Island, N. Y. and Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He occupied that position for 20 years. During the last 6 years, Dr. Pe a has been the Director of the first Colorectal Pediatric Center at Cincinnati Children s Hospital. In 1982, Dr. Pe a described a novel approach to repair anorectal malformations and its associated urogenital defects. Since then, he travelled all over the world, giving lectures and demonstrating his surgical techniques. Dr. Alberto Pe a received multiple recognitions and accolades, including the William Ladd medal, which is the highest honor given to American pediatric surgeons by the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is honorary member of multiple International Associations and Colleges of surgery. During his career, he has published over 150 scientific papers, several books and multiple book chapters.
