Therefore, there was a discrepancy between him and other family members; but when Urvashi went to Lahore in search of Mum,  उर्वशी बुटालिया यांचं ‘अदर साईड ऑफ सायलेन्स’ हे पुस्तक वाचलं आणि देशाची फाळणी म्हणजे काय हे समजलं. या पुस्तकात फाळणीचा ज्वलंत इतिहास आहे. यात मन सुन्न करणारे प्रसंग, घटना आहेत. यात काय नाही? फाळणीच्या हिंसाचारातून, उद्रेकातून जी कुटुंब, माणसं होरपळून निघाली त्यांच्या कथा आहेत. हकिकती आहेत. एवढे अत्याचार, हाल अपेष्टा भोगूनसुद्धा ती माणसं शांत आहेत. संयमित जीवन जगताहेत. आम्हाला ही कुटुंबं माहीत नव्हती. उर्वशी बुटालिया यांनी अशा अनेक लोकांच्या मुलाखती घेतल्या. फाळणीत लोकांनी स्थलांतर कसं केलं, निर्वासितांचा काफिला निघाला, (जे निर्वासित चालत भारतात आले आणि भारतातून पाकिस्तानात गेले.) या लोकांना वाटेत काय अनुभव आले, रोगराईनं किती माणसं मुकले, जातीच्या-धर्माच्या प्रतिष्ठेसाठी लोकांनी आपल्याच मुलाबाळांना, बायकांना कसं ठार केलं, मुलं कशी रस्त्यावर आली हा सगळा इतिहास तुम्हाला या पुस्तकात मिळेल. त्याशिवाय तुम्हाला इथे माणुसकी, आपुलकीचं दर्शन घडेल. घरंदारं, प्रतिष्ठित स्त्रियांनी फाळणीतील अपहरण झालेल्या स्त्रियांचं पुनर्वसन केलं, त्यांना अनेक तऱ्हेने मदत केली. अनौरस मुलांचं संगोपन केलं, त्यांना मार्गाला लावण्यासाठी प्रयत्न केले, अशा प्रतिष्ठित, सामाजिक कार्यकत्र्यांचं दर्शन तुम्हाला इथे घडेल.
