He created the knot identification method used by forensic scientists in the police force, and is a co-founder of the International Guild of Knot Tyers. Previous books include The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Knots & Ropework, The Book of Practical Knots, and Everyday Knots for Fishermen, Boaters, Climbers, Crafters, and Household Use. He lives in Kent, England.

Jason Dalton has taught knot-tying and pioneer skills classes. He lives in Charlottesville, Virginia.
