This was exactly what I needed after a series of dissapointing reads....a happy book with a cute couple that made me smile all the way through! ^_^ We follow Gavin(professional baseball player) and Thea, a couple with two twin girls and a very big problem...faking everything in their marriage. When Gavin faces an iminent divorce, the other players for Nashville Legends (and the rest of Nashville alpha male elite) introduce him to their secret book club were they read romance novels!....Current novel:"Courting the Countess". This book was really charming from the first moment...Gavin and the boys were the literal stars of this! Their friendship and trust shown on the page, the jokes, the acceptance and hand extended to those in need....truly beautiful...after all, it's a given that all men will, eventualy, start hearing a british voice in their heads telling them what to do/say when romance is involved!...>..> ....:))))) I really appreciate the fact that we have the more complex character as the male protagonist instead of the usual heroine...a change from every other book I read in this genre! And it paid off!^^ Gavin felt real, with fustrations, confusion, feelings incapable of expresing without some british guy...btw, loved the creative swearing in here!...and finally, he felt like a husband fighting for his wife and kids! When it comes to Thea....I find myself just giving her a good grade, but definitely not a high one...I kind of wanted to see her issues, fears and anger unfold and resolve, but , if we don't count the unsatisfing solution offered at the end with her dad, she never earns the amount of work she demands Gavin to do. I don't know...this is my opinion. I would have liked if the talk with dad turned into talk with both parents...because it is clear she got nothing from it. Nevertheless, I enjoyed seeing them mend their relationship and actually think about consequences regarding children...the family moments were sweet and perfectly used. Liv..the hated character for most readers of this book...felt just right coming from her background and, obviously sharing the same issues with Thea...I liked her and I actually want to see how her story will be. In this book she was a good sister(not great because of a selfish desire to confirm her fears and problems using her sister's marriage), a great aunt and a necessary evil to overcome by Gavin in order to show that people WILL see the situation differently from the outside perspective! Also loved the guys....cannot wait to see Mack and Vlad in their own stories!:))) Plot:as I mentioned already, the ending didn't land for me, but everything before was really thought out...from the combination between real life and "Courting a Countess", to W.A.G. and their toxicity due to them throwing their own dreams aside, to family scenes and reading before bed. Really good! I hope to see in other installments that Thea follow her dream and her and Gavin are happy! What else? Atmosphere: on point; writing: on point;temperature: high!; humor: the best! :))) I will recommend this book for fans of Tessa Dare, for the humor and steamy bits that go alongside a toxic free relationship! Enjoy!
