About this eBook

On an island off the coast of Maine, a man is found dead. There's no identification on the body. Only the dogged work of a pair of local newspapermen and a graduate student in forensics turns up any clues.
But that's just the beginning of the mystery. Because the more they learn about the man and the baffling circumstances of his death, the less they understand. Was it an impossible crime? Or something stranger still...?
No one but Stephen King could tell this story about the darkness at the heart of the unknown and our compulsion to investigate the unexplained. With echoes of Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon and the work of Graham Greene, one of the world's great storytellers presents a surprising tale that explores the nature of mystery itself...

Wanted to read this because I have become a fan of SyFy's Haven, which they say is based loosely off of this story. I do have a little more background now, but I will have to binge watch Netflix for the rest of my weekend off to feel like I know what's going on. :-)

Stephen spent the afterword of this short and uninspiring tale begging for understanding in an almost apologetic tone, as well he should have. I get what King was attempting to convey, and I'm sure it was interesting to him, and mayhap it should have remained with him. I hear he has a whole safe full of script that hasn't realized daylight, this should have maintained a proud rank among them.

Kind of dry. Its about 2 reporters retelling an unfinished story. If you habe watched the haven tv show based off this book you will enjoy reading about 3 characters that are in the show but it missed the mark for me. Nothing like the show.
