This book does it's very best to attack your heart with a barrage of emotions and feelings and you best watch out and be prepared because it handily succeeds! Also, keep in mind that this is a dark romance. So it is not for all readers. There is content that will be too much for some readers and/or triggers for others. Please keep that in mind when making your decision about reading this book. As for me I really enjoyed this intense read. I found the storyline gripping and the characters complex. Duty and desire build a brutally sharp edge for Jacob and Brenna to try to build a marriage and relationship off of. I thought Brenna was quite likable and Jacob is the type that you are going to have reservations about until you can peel those layers back and get a clear view of what makes him tick. A stellar read and a very enticing start to this new series that's going right on the top of my "Must Read List". This is my unsolicited, unbiased review.

This series is brilliant and I can’t wait for the next book! I love a strong female protagonist and Brenna’s character is superb throughout the whole book! I felt for Jacob’s past that hindered their arranged marriage to join the 2 families. The hidden threat from their enemies keeps Jacob on the war path, and the suspense high! Jacob’s continued poor choice of words and actions cause an added plot twist that has Brenna doubting their future. I struggled with how Jacob and Brenna could ever get out from under but hoped for the best! I literally could not put this book down until the last page and can’t wait for the next book in the series!

A Strong Start . . . At the age of 24, Brenna is called on to do her duty for the Irish mafia. Marriage is arranged by her Irish mobster grandfather to the new leader of the Italian syndicate to forge an alliance. This is needed to make them stronger and able to fight back any incursion by the Russians. Brenna and Jacob are given no choice in this power move. Jacob has been called back to Brooklyn after 7 years to become head of the Italian mafia. Both parties will deny their attraction to each other as long as they can. Jacob will protect her, but he doesn’t want her to think he can love her. Danger always surrounds them, but when it moves in closer through betrayal, will it break them apart? Or will the respect they have been nurturing pull them closer to fight for what they now see as worthwhile and lasting. This story line was very well written and remained tense and intriguing as the characters interacted. They is a great deal of action and the touch of uncertainty to keep it real. Grab your copy and let the story pull you in!
