Nordell explains bias and then gives relevant examples of bias being eliminated. She includes herself in the conversation of bias elimination, drawing on her experience as a student at MIT and as her work as a freelance journalist and pointing out times that she participated in bias. There are also examples of bias being eliminated, from preschools in Switzerland to police officers whose job it was to build trust in a crime ridden community. There are so many wonderful stories of overcoming bias that give hope as to its attainability and Nordell does a wonderful job weaving the many stories of individuals (and herself) in getting over bias.
About the author
Jessica Nordell is a science and culture journalist whose writing has appeared in the Atlantic, the New York Times, the New Republic, and many other publications. A former writer for public radio and producer for American Public Media, she graduated from Harvard University and the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The End of Bias: A Beginning is her first book.
