Howard Pyle was born in 1853 in Wilmington, Delaware. He was a very important artist in his day. He taught art at the Drexel Institute in Philadelphia, illustrated in HarperÕs Monthly, and drew illustrations for books written by other authors. He also had a desire to write. He attracted young readers with his books, The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood, Salt and Pepper, Twilight Land, and The Story of King Arthur and his Knights. Howard Pyle died in 1911.
