"The Stridin' Lassie" is a story of a very ambitious Ukrainian athlete Masha, training for the Olympic Games in the Scottish Highlands and meeting one of its ancient dwellers able to make her dream of winning the games come true. Little does Masha knows that the price of her victory is far too high for her. This is the third story by JJY Sharpe I've read and really enjoyed. A smart mix of Scottish folklore and paranormal elements makes this short story both suspenseful and enjoyable. All characters are well-written and the folklore's elements are thoroughly researched, creating a solid backstory.

Brilliant work Lad! A smooth, mind-tickling ride through the hills, this short story paints vivid landscapes filled with mystery and sharp color. A heavy dose of imagination and folklore kept me leaning forward on the verge of madness. Bravo, Mr. Sharpe, or whoever you are.

About the author

Author of “The Blood Farm” series. A relative latecomer to writing, J.J.Y. Sharpe has worked as a removals man, stable lad, egg factory worker, TEFL teacher and translator. Luckily you’re never too old to start! His ambitions include being a champion at lawn bowls, and making enough of a success at writing to give up the day job. A native Scot, he has spent many years “in exile” in England, as well as Ukraine, Russia and Spain. Loves a good long hike, but not quite as extreme as the protagnist in this little tale.
