Obviously this was not the same Thomas Brothers who was nominated for the 21st Century Pulitzer. Perhaps he should have been. His precise and relatively objective examination of America at a critical juncture in history is invaluable. As he said, two decades before the Civil War, United States are not as they are said to be.
About the author
Thomas Brothers was a finalist for the 2015 Pulitzer Prize in Biography with his title Louis Armstrong: Master of Modernism.
