After recently qualifying as a doctor, Lesley Meredith has just got over the traumatic experiences of tending the wounded after Dunkirk. Now the Nazis are bombing Britain and the Blitz has begun in London and other major cities. She is tired and terrified after a night shift surrounded by explosions.
