Elijah absolutely destroyed my heart. His painstaking journey of healing from losing the love of his life seeped into my bones and I wanted nothing more than to wrap him up in a huge hug and protect him. Carrie is a complete genius with her ability to write with such compassion and understanding. The love between Elijah and Maddie was so organic but required the courage to take a leap of faith to embrace and nurture. I literally cheered for Elijah when he opened himself to Maddie.

After reading the dedication there is no doubt that this is a deeply personal book for the author. The themes of love, loss and loving again can be fraught with differing points of view, feelings and emotions but I believe that this story was handled with compassion, understanding and grace. The story is very readable and had my emotions engaged from the start and while I found myself very much Team Maddie, I never stopped understanding where Elijah was coming from.

Elijah and Maddie's romance is full of razor-sharp poignancy, raw emotions, heart wrenching angst, a gentle sweetness, and a pure genuineness that delivers a hard gut punch that steals your breath and has your heart simply aching for these characters. Powerfully moving and just beautiful. I am posting an unbiased, unsolicited review.
