Many people attack this book for having strong language: yes, it does, and lots of it. There are plenty of books out there on a similar topic that use milder language, so if you can't handle a few f-bombs, this one isn't for you. People also attack it for being a pro-vegan book. Yes, it is, but besides that, it has a lot of information that is GREAT for anyone. The authors put the information into a straightforward, conversational tone that is very easy to read (of course, if you don't mind the language itself). A lot of the information is difficult to take in, but we have to accept that if we want change to happen, we need to make changes. The ingredient listings are extremely helpful, as are the resource lists of books, magazines, and websites. Plus, one thing that I LOVED was that the authors cited their sources. If you have questions about a particular quotation or statistic, you can look it up in the Endnotes and find the original source. Fantastic! All in all, I really enjoyed the book and it was a very fast read. It has inspired me to at least start thinking of making some changes to my eating habits and my lifestyle in general. I love that the authors emphasize it as a way of life, not just a diet plan.

I FEEL LIKE I'VE BEEN RIPPED OFF AND MISLEAD! If you are readying this book based on the claim, "A no-nonsense, tough-love guide for savvy girls who want to stop eating crap and start looking fabulous!" and hope to learn what these authors consider "crap" you will be disappointed. This is a book written by vegetarians to push their agenda on those that eat meat. They use tactics to ensure you are completely disgusted by the meat industry. I'm not saying what they say isn't true, I'm convinced it is. But, don't pretend to offer advise to a group of people (fat people) that are looking for help and then flip the script and make the book about some political argument against meat. This makes you "skinny ... " no different than the meat industry and FDA that aren't looking out for us, neither are you.

This book gave me a smack upside the head, and woke me up. I've already lost five pounds since reading this cover to cover in one sitting, and I keep it handy since it has a lengthy recommended foods list. I have shared this book, and I had to make a waiting list for my friends that wanted to borrow it.
