Two unlikely characters; a young boy, James, and a very large green dragon, Farloft, develop a unique and loving friendship while they are stranded together during a snowstorm, after the dragon rescues James from a sinking sand pit. Farloft entertains James, telling him stories of Kings, Wizards, treasures, and a magic sword and shield. After the storm passes, both are sad that it is time for them to separate; neither wanting to leave the other. They are both orphans you see. Read this enchanting story to find the magical ending that creates Farloft and James a new family. I loved the dragon character, Farloft. Theresa Snyder, the author, does an excellent job of bringing him to life in the story. I could visualize James curled up in Farloft’s tail and the dragon’s big toothy grin as he told James stories of King Ludlow, and the sword and shield. The book is a wonderful example that friends, and family, aren’t always like you. The way they look, language they speak, clothes they wear, and where they come from can be nothing like you, and your experiences. Yet, you can love one another and share a close life-long friendship, even become a family. A great book demonstrating inclusiveness for elementary school age children and young adults. And, a terrific book for adults to read to their toddlers and preschoolers. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good heartwarming story to read.
