Seit vielen Jahren konnte sich die deutsche Süßwarenindustrie auf das Exportgeschäft als wichtiges, stetig wachsendes Standbein verlassen. Doch 2012 gingen die Ausfuhrmengen der Branche erstmals seit sieben Jahren zurück. Vor allem die gestiegenen Rohstoffpreise haben deutsche Süßwaren verteuert und damit weniger wettbewerbsfähig im Ausland gemacht. Im Inland konnten die Süßwarenhersteller nur aufgrund von gestiegenen Preisen ein Umsatzplus erzielen.
