About this ebook

Contrary to what most diets would have you believe, the human body does not recognize all calories as equal. Some foods are used to boost brain power, fuel metabolism, and heal the body—while others are simply stored as fat. In The Calorie Myth, Bailor shows us how eating more of the right kinds of foods and exercising less, but at a higher intensity, is the true formula for burning fat.

Why? Because eating high-quality foods balances the hormones that regulate our metabolism. When we eat these foods, our bodies naturally maintain a healthy weight. But when we eat sugar, starches, processed fats, and other poor-quality foods, the body's regulatory system becomes "clogged" and prevents us from burning extra calories. Translation: Those extra 10 pounds aren't the result of eating too much . . . they're the result of eating the wrong foods!

Bailor offers clear, comprehensive guidance on what to eat and why, providing an eating plan, recipes, and a simple yet effective exercise regimen. Losing weight doesn't have to mean going hungry or spending hours at the gym. The Calorie Myth offers a radical and effective new model for weight loss and long-term health.

I wish I had this book when my healing journey began. It strikes me as a perfect place to begin the transition from what we've always been taught to what really promotes health and sanity, minus the overwhelm I've felt so often in the last three years. That said, I don't agree with every eating recommendation made in the later chapters. The explanations and method are wonderfully simple, but I think exclude some other important aspects of health and healing nutrition.

I thought this book had promise until the first chapter. He states the calorie maths is wrong, that we eat 570 calories more than in 1970 and the maths would mean we should all weigh around the 907lb mark. This theory is wrong, and where he lost credibility, you would not gain weight ad infinitum from having those calories, the body gets to a weight where it would then plateau as long as you continue consuming those extra calories! I then took a look at his website to find that the book is just a front to sell the SANE plan, books and supplements that no one needs. If you want to lose weight the system is simple, eat more (mostly) vegtables, lean meat, grains, pulses and nuts. stay away from processed foods and eat treats in moderation. oh and exercise. if you're looking for a good book about eating healthily them check out Tim Spector - Diet myth and spoon fed.

Most of what is in this book I was already doing but it explained more in detail scientifically what I needed to change. Taking the books advice I have been able to shed more lbs, I am at 75lbs lost so far. As someone who has studied nutrition this the first book that has actually done a good job explaining how our bodies function on more than just calories but also on hormones.
