The reason why they ask for a credit card is so they can setup an account. That way if you decide to purchase a book your credit card will on file. So to all of you people who don't know why you have to enter a credit card number, there's your answer. Stop being so cheap and always looking for something free, because in order to read good books you have to pay for them!!!

They require the card info to create an account, its a pain yes, but just the way it is. If you don't have a debit/credit card with a logo for visa/master card etc. You can purchase a gift card (with logo) or green dot card, and load money on it. You can use that as well. I do own a card, but i would NEVER give that info out, so i purchased a gift card w the Visa logo, and reload it every so often. This way i can purchase items, and apps, and if someone gets my card number, its not for my actual account..:)

I enjoyed the sample and plan to read the real thing later. Google asks for a credit card so you can purchase it for $0.00, it'll show up as such in your receipt they email you and in your statement. It's undeniable proof that you own a copy of it and didn't steal or do something illegal to get your hands on it.
