About this ebook

A tale of danger, suspicion, and desire in Regency England by the New York Times–bestselling “consummate storyteller” (RT Book Reviews).

Lord Thorpe’s new business partner is not what he expected. With her billowy black hair and creamy skin, Alexandra Ward is stunningly beautiful, brashly outspoken . . . and the perfect image of a wealthy woman long thought dead.

Straight from America, Alexandra finds London fraught with danger. Her appearance on Thorpe’s arm sends shock rippling through society and arouses hushed whispers: is she a schemer in search of a dead woman’s fortune, or an innocent caught up in circumstances that she doesn’t understand?

Someone knows the truth, someone who doesn’t want Alexandra to live long enough to learn anything. Only Lord Thorpe can help her now—if he can overcome his own suspicions . . .

The past comes forward to the future in this satisfying story of filled with secrets, contrivance and a journey that pulls two characters together. Alexandra a wealthy woman who runs a Tea business in America, travels to London to conduct business there. She finagles her way into Sebastian, Lord Thorpe's home so see his artifacts from India. But that is not all she sees! She meets Sebastian where this is an instant spark and she goes with him to a ball. But as I said the past comes foward when she meets the Countess of Exmoor, who thinks she is her mother Simone, who forced her and her siblings to flee when they were young from France and the mobs. Could she really be that person and trying to swindle some money out of the Countess? Candace Camp brings this story alive in an intriguing tale of suspense, unexpected feelings, lies, danger and even humor that will keep you turning the pages. Truly loved it!
