4.125 ~ Enjoyable Cast, Tired Plot, Still Great Writing ✩ ✩ ✩ ✩ FOUR-STAR ✩ REVIEW ✩ ✩ ✩ ✩ > > Judging a Book by it's Cover < < Black and White male in suit, wearing sunglasses. Does not stand out so much as the bold red font of the title and large, crisp author name font choices do. After reading the banter and snark between Christian and Emily in FUEL FOR FIRE (and even before that), I was truly looking forward to seeing these two come together. > > Looking Deeper < < POV ~> Third-person narrative. Setting ~> Mostly UK, ending in US This story picked up right around the time that Christian, Emily, Ace, Angel, and Rusty split up from Dagan and Chelsea (Fuel for Fire) while trying to leave England after a somewhat botched mission. The group was still trying to escape England and fly under Spider's radar when they gained a duo hell-bent on terminating Christian. Christian and Emily's cat-and-mouse banter was as amusing as it was exhausting. While there was a low-lying level of sexual foreplay evident in their early banter, it was not until about the halfway point before they matured enough to admit it. On the surface, they may have appeared to be as similar as oil and water but where it counted, there were deeper commonalities to be found. Dialogue was, by turns, smart and witty. The interactions were believable. A secondary story arc between Ace and Rusty was developing as well. While I am 100%, completely on-board with reading M/M Gay Romance stories (and they comprise approximately 58% of this years' reviews), the relationship between these two got annoying fairly quick with their polarized personalities and outlooks. In the final chapters, a story arc was beginning to make itself known for Angel as well... indicating that there may be - at least - two more books to this series. However, where the earlier books were chocked full of adventure and suspense, but contained enough hot romance to keep the HEA fans happy, the last couple books seemed to be losing steam. They felt more in-line with many contemporary of the romances out there that add a slight suspense edge to perk the plot up. This was not a wholly disappointing read; it was still an incredibly well-written story with the BKI cast that many readers have grown to love. The predictability was low. While the bane of BKI's existence is still at large, the immediate conflicts between the lead couple were resolved and they reached their HEA. Overall, BKI is an outstanding series and while I did enjoy HOT PURSUIT, I think some of the earlier books in the series were better fitted to my preferences. . Rating: [R] ~ Score: 4.125 ~ Stars: 4 Warning: Contains some graphic violence and a LOT of UK English. ========================== ⭐ ⭐ **** Disclosure of Material: I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and the Author/Publisher with the hope that I would voluntarily leave unbiased and unsolicited feedback. I was overjoyed when I saw "Hot Pursuit" was available. I fell in love with the story from nearly the first chapter. I adore the BKI family and world, especially the characters of Christian and Emily. Not only was it sweet and sexy, but also incredibly witty and humorous. Now, I must endure another gestation period for our lovely author until I'll be rewarded with her next genius, featuring the mysterious Angel. Can't wait!!

Julie Ann Walker – Hot Pursuit – (Black Knights Inc. Series – Book 11) The Black Knight Inc. group is one of the most clandestine government defense firm in the U.S. and reports directly to the President. They take on missions that the President and his Joint Chief of Staff feel is in the best interest of our country. The team is in Chicago and work out of a custom Motor Cycle shop as their cover. Each mission they receive takes the reader on a ride that you don’t easily forget, which is the making of a terrific book because of a good author. This book can be read as a stand-alone, however, if you have read the other books in this series, you will recall how Christian and Emily banter back and forth. Each with their snide remarks to each other which some believe is both individuals are fighting their attraction to each other. Christian and Emily may be the only two on this planet are oblivious from this fact. As the book continues and you hold your breath that they won’t get caught and/or killed, we find out Christian’s secret of why he doesn’t want to ever go back to England. He wants this assignment closed as soon as possible and go back to America. Emily’s reason to never mix business with pleasure, ie; Christian is off limits as a co-worker, is revealed too. Those that are still in Europe trying to find a way home are Christian, Emily, Ace and Rusty Parker. Rusty is a civilian and former Marine and former CIA asset who chose to move to England and become a charter boat captain. Rusty may have to go back to America with the BKI crew because now the enemy knows who he is. This installment is bitter sweet because the last book in this series in next up. I love this series and I don’t know what the author has in mind; a spin-off in which we get a glimpse of the characters that we have come to love, or a new series in which we will not hear from this team again. As always, Ms. Walker’s stories are heart stopping, biting your nails good and a fast ride. You truly are pulled into the story in the first chapter until the very last page. Don’t miss this book. You will love it. "I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) of this book.
