A great start to a new series. This book is action packed. The main character Lyric is a very complex character, even though she is a teenager. Emory and Braelyn, Lyric's friends are complete opposites and the dynamics of there friendship is an added complexity in this story. Rhodes, Luken, Rosamond and Easton all fight to keep Lyric safe in order for her to fulfil her destiny but will it be enough? I found the story gripping, the emotions real and look forward to following Lyric's fate in the next book.

A great start to a new series by Carrie Ann Ryan! It's got everything for you need for fantasy! Magic, dreams and a prophecy! Lyric is trying to figure out who she's supposed to be. She's at a crossroads of life. She's an adult, but not quite. She knows things are changing, but she's not sure she is what she's supposed to be. Add in dreams she's been having all her life and seeing monsters, and it might be just too much for one girl. I like the questions Ryan brings up in her YA debut. That age is so confusing and strange. Trying to figure out who you are, and how that fits into who you were and who you're going to be. Add in a boy, who's not really a boy, magic and a whole another world you didn't know existed, and you have a great recipe for adventure!

Just an OK read. There's not a lot of depth in this book. It's very repetitive and reminded me of a kid writing an essay who has a high word count they're trying to reach. It honestly would have been a more enjoyable read if it was a shorter book that got to the point instead of dragging everything out. The ending finally caught my interest and maybe the second book will be better.
