About this ebook

2023 Finalist for the DWRI Romance Book Awards

One bored governess, one handsome doctor, and unlimited unchaperoned nighttime activities. What could possibly go wrong?

Sophia Preston wants adventure, excitement, and self-determination. She hired herself out as a governess to gain independence, and now she has it at Robin Abbey: every day, she gets to mind the Cosgrove children, eat the Cosgrove’s food, and live by Cosgrove’s rules.

When John Anderson arrives as accoucheur ahead of Lady Widlake’s next baby, Sophia immediately sees the potential for excitement. Who wouldn’t want to seduce the handsome young doctor who is guaranteed to move on once Lady Widlake’s baby is born?

John doesn’t mind flirting with the intriguing governess - as long as they aren’t caught. He has goals, and they don’t include ruining his reputation. Still, he must admit that Miss Preston is everything he ever wanted in a woman: smart, beautiful, unlike anyone else he has ever met…

When counterfeit bank notes surface in town, the authorities suspect someone at Robin Abbey is the criminal. Suddenly, both Sophia and John are put under the microscope. They have no choice but to band together to find the true culprit. The only question is: will they find true love, too?

It was a charming story.Governess Sophia Preston and Dr.John Anderson were brought together by the Cosgrove family. They were attracted to each other but didn't want a scandal. Sophia took care of the children and John was brought for to care for her pregnant mistress. There is foul play with some counterfeit bank notes and someone is suspected of fraud .This is a book full of mystery and mayhem Come along for the ride

4 1/2 * STARS * This book is very different from any I've read in a while. Hold on to your ebook reader or a copy of the book. It's a bumpy ride. Sophia Preston, the governess to three of Lord and Lady Widlake's childten, comes on strong in her desires. John Anderson, the man-midwife or accoucheur, arrives to attend Lady Widlake in her current pregnancy. His mixed race doesn't matter to Sophia, what she sees is another man to seduce for a distraction of her boredom. John doesn't stand a chance against Sophie's pursuit. Before Lady Widlake's delivery, counterfeit bills show up in the village and are traced back to the Widlake Abbey. Accusations create choas. A mystery to be solved. I wasn't prepared for Sophia's very open independence at the beginning of the book. The non-cookie cutter ending is a nice surprise. Heat level 5 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book via Booksprout.

I love it when a book does not just entertain but also I learn something new. Accoucheur is not a term I have ever heard much less had a main character one. This tale is about a rather unhappy governess she likes the freedom from her family but not the job. There are some very interesting parts to this story. I will admit that Sophia was not my favorite of characters but she was true to her nature. I really liked John.
