Paul Celans Œuvre ist vielschichtig. Markus Fischer analysiert dessen poetologische, literarhistorische, dichterisch-interpretatorische und poetisch-translatorische Aspekte. In Celans Büchner-Preis-Rede „Der Meridian“ entdeckt er die poetische Realisation der in ihr entfalteten Poetologie und stellt diese in den Kontext der Celanschen Dichtung. An ausgewählten Gedichten zeigt er wiederum zentrale poetologische Begriffe Celans.
Das „Gespräch im Gebirg“ betrachtet er vor dem Hintergrund der literarischen Wander-Motivik von der Romantik bis zur Gegenwart. Dem lyrischen Werk des Czernowitzer Jugendfreundes Immanuel Weißglas wird hier besondere Aufmerksamkeit zuteil.
