Clinton announced a partnership between the Fed. government and 3 domestic auto manufacturers -- Ford, GM, and Chrysler, called the Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV). This report examines several aspects of PNGV. Discusses the progress made to date toward achieving the partnership goals; describes the Fed. funding levels; identifies the technologies being developed; and compares the R&D activities of the auto mfrs. with research sponsored by the partnership.
