This collection of essays includes papers presented at the 21st annual Eugene Scassa Mock OAS Conference, an inter-collegiate competition and prestigious academic conference focused on inter-American political systems and the politics, history, and culture of the Americas. About the author
Joshua Hyles holds a Master of Arts in History from Baylor University, USA, as well as separate Bachelors of Arts and Sciences in Archaeology, History, and Classical Languages. He serves as the Executive Program Director of the Eugene Scassa Mock OAS Program, an intercollegiate academic conference and competition involving undergraduate, graduate, and law school students from across the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean. He has written short works in the fields of colonial history, Latin American studies, and political science, and has served as chief-editor for the anthology Inter-American Relations: Past, Present, and Future Trends. His most recent monograph, Guiana and the Shadows of Empire, a study of the colonial legacies of Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana, has been recognized internationally as a valuable contribution to the overall study of that region of South America.
