An interesting story. I don't understand how the aliens were able to communicate as mates because I couldn't figure out how the ability to manipulate the physical make up of elements could affect the telepathy between lovers. However I did enjoy watching people from such varying cultures fall in love so I guess I didn't do too badly I do think if I had had the definition list before reading, I'd have "gotten it " sooner. I also thought pacing dragged in the middle and Doug serving as deus ex machina to contact his sister just in the nick of time was a bit too much. Still I'm glad I read it and would recommend it to any adventurous reader.

Mrs. Ley is stretching her writing muscles and branching out in this book all the way to space. I very much enjoyed the world building she worked to setup in this book, and look forward to more in it in the future. I enjoyed the relationship that was developed between the two main characters, Lisa and Qaiyaan. I really enjoyed the fact that Lisa wasn't a useless little girl, but an experienced woman. The situation of the crew was heartbreaking, but certainly brought us closer to them. I look forward to reading more about them too.

So much fun. I loved this so much that I upon finishing it I went directly to the second part. I will be listening to it again. The narrative made me see visualize it. This book was given to me for free at my request from the publisher or author or narrator and I provided this unbiased voluntary review.
