She is also the author of The Mother's Almanac Goes to School, the bestselling guide for parents of children aged six to twelve, and Marguerite Kelly's Family Almanac, and has written for Woman's Day, Parents Magazine, the New York Times Magazine, and Harper's Bazaar. An active volunteer, she was a trustee of the Washington, D.C., Public Library for many years.
