This is a pay back revenge drama for a personl crime committed on Mercy Pryce by Colton Hanh, the town Golden boy. It's been 20 long years and her best friend's death by drunk driving , after she announces her engagement to Colton brings about an impetus to seek revenge. So Mercy along with long term boyfriend Yakim and friend Leona plan to bring down Colton and the town Cartleige down. All well and fine , unfortunately for the "mega"revenge and downfall planned and plotted we are presented with a sordid seduction and not even a blimp revenge. We don't get to see the massive destruction as promised multiple times,we don't get to see the town reeling under the dark clouds of destruction and we don't get any personal satisfaction that the bad guy has gotten is due. We only get bpages and pages of promises not kept by the author. This book doesn't keep up with the premise it promises. A disappointment, as I was really keen to see what Mercy had planned. I specifically did not like the author not giving Merrcy her due , she has a degree in finance and law both could have been used effectively to not just cripple Colton but to annihilate him. But we get Mercy using tried old seduction as the primacy means of revenge. I just didn't feel like she was getting the revenge, she was still being used. The characters are OK none stand out as much as Ari, her old friend. I truly wish she had settled for him. But , we really don't know what's good for us. Recommended: meh I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
