About this ebook

From the internationally bestselling authors who brought you the Krinar Chronicles comes a captivating tale of intrigue, love, and danger in a world where sorcery is entwined with science . . .

Once a respected member of the Sorcerer Council and now an outcast, Blaise has spent the last year of his life working on a special magical object. The goal is to allow anyone to do magic, not just the sorcerer elite. The outcome of his quest is unlike anything he could’ve ever imagined – because, instead of an object, he creates Her.

She is Gala, and she is anything but inanimate. Born in the Spell Realm, she is beautiful and highly intelligent – and nobody knows what she’s capable of. She will do anything to experience the world . . . even leave the man she is beginning to fall for.

Augusta, a powerful sorceress and Blaise’s former fiancée, sees Blaise’s deed as the ultimate hubris and Gala as an abomination that must be destroyed. In her quest to save the human race, Augusta will forge new alliances, becoming tangled in a web of intrigue that stretches further than any of them suspect. She may even have to turn to her new lover Barson, a ruthless warrior who might have an agenda of his own . . .

The author's writing is straight forward with an emphasis on characters rather than their surroundings, often leaving the readers imagination to fill in the gaps. Yet the characters still come across as underdeveloped and fairly shallow. I felt that this may have been remedied if the book was longer as it was far too short to begin with. From start to finish the impression of time taken within the story felt too compressed. It was as if the story's events happened within a week's time.

But amateurly written, as if someone you just met was recalling the basics of the story to tell it to you w/o spending a lot of time to do so. There is not much time spent on descriptive detail -as you'd see with big name authors- it is more like a rough draft. I DO like the Krinar Chronicles series much better!!

Normally, I don't like romance in the fantasy novels I choose to read. Surprisingly, this novel balances romance elements with the fantasy genre really well. Even though the protagonist, Gala, swoons over her creator a bit, it isn't overwhelming. There is enough intrigue and antagonism to keep the reader interested. I wish I could have seen more of Blaise. He is really my favorite character. I have read this novel and I have listened to Emily Durante's narration. I much prefer reading the novel. But, I could really feel Gala's innocence and wonder through Emily Durante's voice. I cannot wait for the next volume in this series.
