Carly Moore just can't leave well enough alone. She just met Lula, the girl she (temporarily) replaced at Max's Tavern, but she takes a liking to her immediately. When Lula disappears, everyone treats it as Lula being Lula; running off again and shirking responsibility. Carly knows it's something else. She knows that it's more than it appears to be yet no one believes her. She decides to take on the mystery herself and damn the consequences. She knows that if two kind-hearted women hadn't gone out of their way to help her, her life could be very different now. This book had my emotions all over the place: up, down, sideways, backwards..... It was a definite roller-coaster. I know there were a few times when I yelled out or at the book while I was reading. There were times when I found myself trying to nudge Carly with my mind (as if!) to try to get her to do what I wanted her to do. She's so danged stubborn that even if I could nudge a fictional character, she wouldn't do it! Of course the book leaves us on a cliff hanger because the book would be 700 pages+ if not. Not giving anything away but I really pictured Carly doing a "mic drop" in her head at the end. The next book is going to be so tasty!! Can't wait to devour it like I did this one.

And Carly is back! I have to say I went blind for this one, I didn't read the blurb before starting it out. I knew Lula was back from some teasers but I could have never guessed what happened. You CAN'T read this one as a standalone, because we start a few weeks after book 1, Carly is still working for Max, she is still seeing Wyatt (who stole my heart in the first book), but she has some reserves about him, he hasn't shared anything about himself and Carly is fit to be tied about it. Remember, secrets ARE the currency at Drum and oh boy! They surely come pricy in this one. Lula is back and Carly is sure to have lost her job, but she only had to share it for one day, as Lula has gone missing and Carly is certain that it wasn't her choice this time around. She teams up with Marco, Max's deputy friend who saved her and Wyatt and took a bullet in the line of duty and is on medical leave because of it, to find Lula and they pick up some revelations along the way that certainly are going to stir up things a lot. I loved seeing their friendship grow and their adventure is a must-read. It was hard for me to write this because I'm seething people, I feel real hatred towards someone. I thought Carly was overreacting but after everything that happens in this book, I'm so ready to see her burn everything to the ground. I'm right along with her, Drum needs a new... perspective. If secrets are the currency I'm sure with her connections she is starting to become very rich.

I was very eager to read this second book in the Carly Moore series. We first met her in Rose Gardner’s world but Carly has step away from there and is now living in hiding from her father in Drum TN. Each book has a mystery solved within it but there is also a bigger picture puzzle that we get more information from each edition. In the first book, Carly starts working at a bar / restaurant filling in for the ever elusive Lula, but now she’s back and things are not quite what they should be. Carly and her new bestie Marco are teaming up this time to help find the missing women. Everyone is back in this novel with a few other smaller characters and I’m loving them all. I had been saving this book to read while on holidays and I was hoping to read it leisurely but of course I got so hooked up with it all, I stayed up to the wee hours of the morning to finish it. I needed to know all the bits and pieces and what was going to happen next. Carly is my new favourite sleuth and I’m hoping she sticks around for a long time to come yet. She may need to run from Drum as things are heating up for her there but maybe a certain mechanic will be more open and she will have an extra reason to stay. I feel fans of DGS are sure to love Carly as much as I do and any mystery reader will adore her too. Great series.
