During the first year of the pandemic, Regina seeks solace from her isolation and anxiety in her backyard, which is filled with twisted vines and branches. Streams of light somehow find their way in and reveal hidden magic. In this flow of light, Regina takes pictures, which become her chronicle of the broken world and her escape from it.
This short work also includes photographs taken by the author.
About the author
Joe Beine grew up in Littleton, Colorado, and now lives in Denver. He likes to draw family trees, gaze out his skylight window, pretend to be a gardener, and go for walks with his spirit puppy, Raven. When the light is just right, parts of his backyard come alive. And he takes pictures. He believes the magic in the world can be found in the faces of the people around you. He gives some of these faces to the characters in his stories.
