I got off to such a great start with this app. I found it easy to use and felt I learnt alot. However... on the Japanese course, you begin learning symbols and how to read. Great, or so I thought. It quickly escalates into reading everything and appears to continue this way in reading the question and answer in Japanese which is just too much for my brain to figure out so I feel I can no longer continue with this app, which is a shame because from the speaking point of view I was doing so well.

I was considering buying a premium subscription after Duolingo lapsed, but no more. The ads to buy premium are egregiously in your face, popping up at least 10 times per lesson, completely covering the screen. The other ads are the worst kind, too, find the x or the >> three times in a row for the scammy apps you've seen a million times before. And on top of that, the lesson often fails to load after you finish the ad, and you have to do it all over again. All huge red flags. No thx

In all honesty, just use the web interface instead. If you want the gamification with points and streaks, you'll probably be disappointed when you lose them through the app. You can do a lesson, have it say you've earned points and then don't get the points. Busuu are aware of the problem and have been 'investigating' for almost a year now. If you just want a good language learning experience, it's much better and purposeful than the ruined owl.
