About this app

⭐ 4.7 stars from 45,000+ reviews. Trusted by language learners worldwide.

LingQ is the language learning method that gets you fluent — by reading and listening to real content you actually enjoy, not textbook drills or gamified exercises.

Learn Spanish, English, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Arabic, and 45+ more languages.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
📖 THE LINGQ METHOD — WHY IT WORKS
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

LingQ is built on comprehensible input — the science-backed idea that we acquire language the same way we learned our first language: by understanding meaningful content at our level, not memorizing rules.

Instead of lessons and drills, you immerse yourself in real stories, podcasts, books, and videos. You encounter words in context, look them up instantly, and naturally absorb the language over time. This is language immersion that actually fits into your life.

LingQ was co-founded by Steve Kaufmann, a polyglot who has learned 20+ languages using this exact approach.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
🆚 HOW LINGQ IS DIFFERENT
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Unlike Duolingo, Babbel, or Rosetta Stone, LingQ doesn't rely on gamification, repetitive drills, or synthetic sentences. Instead:

✅ You learn from REAL content — podcasts, books, YouTube, Netflix
✅ You choose topics you love — sports, history, comedy, true crime
✅ You build vocabulary from context — not flashcard lists
✅ You progress through immersion — not streaks or XP points

If you've plateaued with other language learning apps, LingQ is the next step.

Honestly. They're forcing you to pay to fully learn the language when you can find a more similar free better version like satori reader. Also the translations sometimes are wrong and the grammar guides are not very helpful sometimes and make no sense. Also why are you limited to 20 LingQ 's? even if you delete them it doesn't let you learn more. it feels more like a cash grab than anything else. It'd be better if u could delete LingQ 's. Ugh. The free version should have less restrictions.

We understand that the free plan’s limits may feel restrictive. It is designed to let users test LingQ’s basic workflow, while unlimited LingQs require Premium. Deleting LingQs does not reset the 20-LingQ limit. Please report incorrect translations to support@lingq.com.

The app is easy to navigate and use, and I feel like I am Really learning my new language!! I am new to the app, and I Understand that I Can only have 20 LingQ's, but even when I delete the Ones I know now when I used up my 20, and I now have less then 20 LingQ's, its still says I need premium to add more... Im confused on that part because now I cant add them For I can go back and learn the new words im introduced too, but overall its a Great app! I think everyone should give it a try!

Thanks! The free LingQ limit is based on LingQs created, not just current saved words, so deleting them doesn’t reset the limit. Premium unlocks unlimited LingQs. Glad you’re enjoying the app overall!

It blows my mind how cool and also how terribly buggy and amateur the polish still is on this app even after all these years. It's gotten worse. Furigana doesn't display right over the kanji and mine randomly shows, Russian, Korean etc over the kanji, madness. Highlighting sentences is still an ungodly unusable nightmare. In the listener if you click a word quick for definition you can't return to listener, have to go back to read and click listener then find your place again. List goes on...
