About this app

Session is a private messenger offering privacy, anonymity, and security. With end-to-end encryption, no phone numbers for sign-up, and decentralisation, Session is a messenger that truly keeps your messages private and secure.

Session uses a powerful decentralised network of servers to route your messages, making it impossible for anyone to leak or sell your data. And with Session’s private routing protocols, your messages are completely anonymous. No one ever knows who you’re talking to, what you’re saying, or even your IP address.

Privacy is the default when you use Session. Every message is encrypted, every time. We take your privacy seriously — Session gives you a safe, private place to chat with your friends, family, or anyone in the world.

• Fully anonymous account creation: No phone number or email is needed to create an Account ID
• Decentralised server network: No data breaches, no central point of failure
• No metadata logging: Session doesn't store, track, or log your messaging metadata
• IP address protection: Your IP address is protected using a specialised onion routing protocol
• Closed groups: Private, end-to-end encrypted group chats for up to 100 people
• Secure attachments: Share voice snippets, photos, and files with Session's secure encryption and privacy protections
• Free and open-source: Don’t take our word for it — check Session's code yourself

Session is free as in free speech, free as in free beer, and free of ads and trackers. Session is built and maintained by the OPTF, Australia’s first privacy tech not-for-profit organisation. Take back your online privacy today — download Session.

Session was great until I got added to a group chat that was just posting child porn. I coule find no way to report that. I could get each individual person's ID and submit each to a tip line, but there's no way to link the full group, and no way to report them or the entire group on the app itself. I can block them and that's it. The app itself is fine. But the devs shouldn't allow something like that to go on on their app.

We're deeply sorry you encountered this disturbing content. Due to Session's decentralized design, groups cannot be centrally moderated or reported within the app. We appreciate you taking the time to report these users to the authorities. We are currently investigating additional measures to reduce the misuse of Session.

Session is a great private messaging app—when it works! Sadly, over the last month, it's become completely unusable. Messages fail to send, and files, pictures, etc., won't load. It's now a defunct app. I've had to consider using other alternatives now. However, I'm still hoping an update is coming to sort these issues out and make it once again the great app that it is. Please fix it soon.

A lot of people finding problems to solutions in the review section, which is a shame. In short, there are lots of safe ways to message, signal is the gold standard, but they are not private as they are attached to your phone number. This is an actual private messenger. Your public key can be shared however you choose, because you are still not connected to someone until you accept contact. It is simple and safe, and so far has been flawless for me and my contacts
