Standard Notes is a secure and private notes app. It syncs your notes securely across all your devices, including your Android devices, Windows, iOS, Linux, and Web.

Private means your notes are end-to-end encrypted, so only you can read your notes. Even we can't read the contents of your notes.

Simple means it does one job and does it well. Standard Notes is a safe and lasting place for your life's work. Our focus is making it easy to write notes wherever you are and syncing them with encryption to all your devices.

Standard Notes is completely open-source, which means when we say your notes are encrypted with industry-leading XChaCha-20 encryption, and that only you can read your notes, you don't have to take our word for it. Our code is open to the world to audit.

We made Standard Notes simple because longevity is important to us. We want to make sure we're here, protecting your notes, for the next hundred years. You shouldn't have to find a new notes app every year.

Ratings and reviews

I quite like the experience so far, it is a capable notes app that syncs between devices. However, there is one issue that I would like fixed on Android, that is when I am typing sometimes I can't see as the keyboard blocks the bottom when I exceed the available space above it. In order to get around this, I need to manually add blank spaces underneath the text behind the keyboard to scroll to see the covered text. Other than that, this app makes a really great Journal for me. Thank you!

By far the best notes taking App I have used that shows multiple devices to sync data, even on the free account. All apps are responsive and easy to use. I have a couple of negatives that hopefully will be sorted at some point. The first is the initial tier costs of $90 per year. This is steep. The second is the lack of collaborative editing functionality. Would happily pay for this one.

Fantastic app. Smooth, reliable and minimalistic. I just wish that there was a cheaper plan being offered. $90 for markdown, folders and other basic features is way too steep for me. If it was something like $30 per year I'd buy it in an instant. Hopefully with the Proton merger we maybe will see some alternative plans being offered? I don't need images of any files, just would like a little more customisation over my notes. If this doesn't happen then I'm still happy to use the free version.
