Standard Notes is a secure and private notes app. It syncs your notes securely across all your devices, including your Android devices, Windows, iOS, Linux, and Web.

Private means your notes are end-to-end encrypted, so only you can read your notes. Even we can't read the contents of your notes.

Simple means it does one job and does it well. Standard Notes is a safe and lasting place for your life's work. Our focus is making it easy to write notes wherever you are and syncing them with encryption to all your devices.

Standard Notes is completely open-source, which means when we say your notes are encrypted with industry-leading XChaCha-20 encryption, and that only you can read your notes, you don't have to take our word for it. Our code is open to the world to audit.

We made Standard Notes simple because longevity is important to us. We want to make sure we're here, protecting your notes, for the next hundred years. You shouldn't have to find a new notes app every year.

Ratings and reviews

Not a fan. First, it doesn't play well with 1Password. There is a button for Google Keep but it's not easy. I had to search online to find it is a manual process. And once the import was done there were many cryptic errors, most items were duplicated, and pictures were orphaned from corresponding notes. It ended up being a huge pain and mess. Starting from scratch may be a better experience but I'm taking a pass. If importing from Keep is an advertised feature it shouldn't be such a cluster.

Great encryption, but after 5 days, can't edit notes unless you pay: "Free version: Note history=5 days. Pd. 1 yr unlimited." Look it up people, I insist. And pricing? $90 & $120? Who are you pricing for, professional journalists? There are options that don’t time-lock your thoughts, or priced for "greed-flation." Encrypted, then held for random. JOPLIN Notes, FREE, similar features. Saves you... $90 (or $120?). Look this up within the app! Be ashamed. AVOID THIS BS.

Unusable. For many months, app always crashed if i typed too fast, due to constant syncing. Which caused a syncing error & 2 slightly different files when reopening app. Then syncing never worked at all, due to "unknown error". Now in past few days, even though app said my plan was good until july 2026, all notes are covered by boxes saying "action bar is in read-only state, your subscription expired" & "extensions webpage not available", & 90% covered when keyboard open. Updates dont fix it
