Good app! Helpful lessons follow the structure of official language courses, meaning you can use it to help you pass language exams. Explanations useful in guiding your understanding. I much prefer to Duolingo (too chaotic and gamified). Babbel is an app for actual learning. Minor critique: sensitivity of answer buttons is too low - sometimes I make a 'mistake' because I type quickly. The high contrast small font size in the individual letter buttons when spelling an answer = poor legibility.

Course is much better than Duolingo - it's way more useful for beginners who actually want to use the language. The lessons are structured like a traditional textbook. The main complaint is voice recognition. It sucks. Short words are incredibly difficult. Longer phrases are really lax - I have knowingly stumbled on a word and still gotten a pass. There is no feedback. If it rejects you, you have to guess why. Very frustrating! Thankfully, you can disable the speaking parts.

Barely worth the expense. A big investment for access to only 1 language. The app has a lot to teach you, but never tests your knowledge in an engaging way. Every lesson, you're just drilling the exact same sentences over and over again. Even if you form a correct answer in your own way, the app will mark it as incorrect untill you give it exactly what it wants. Because of this, lessons take frustratingly long and feel devoid of any learning experience.
