About this app

PRESTO E-Tickets, a new convenient and touchless way to pay your transit fare, are now available for Durham Region Transit (DRT), Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) and Oakville Transit customers.

PRESTO E-Tickets are digital tickets that can be conveniently purchased on your smartphone before boarding transit – there’s no more need to worry about finding the correct change before you hop on the bus.

Open the PRESTO E-Tickets app, choose an E-Ticket for the transit agency you are using, activate the E-Ticket and then scan the QR code on the barcode reader at the station or on the bus. An activated and scanned PRESTO E-Ticket on your smartphone is your proof-of-payment, so make sure you have it ready in case of fare inspection.

PRESTO E-Tickets are ideal for occasional riders and visitors or those who may have forgotten their PRESTO card. They can also be used for group travel as multiple tickets can be purchased, activated and displayed for payment by one individual on one smartphone.

PRESTO E-Tickets are currently available on Hamilton Street Railway (HSR), Durham Region Transit (DRT) and Oakville Transit. They are valid for travel on a single transit agency and do not count towards any loyalty programs, discounted transfers or co-fares that may be in place for PRESTO card or paper ticket users.

We recommend always having the latest version of your OS installed to make sure you get the best experience with the PRESTO E-Tickets app.

It's a great idea and could work really well---but it doesn't just yet. Buying process is simple but not the most intuitive, loading the tickets works fine BUT you need Wi-Fi to activate which isn't always avail at a bus stop in middle of nowhere. Once the ticket activates (just displays a QR code on your screen) make sure your screen doesn't timeout because app takes forever to load back on screen! Once on the bus it's a real pain to get it to scan, sometimes works, other times not so much.

Dislike the app. I constantly get an error when trying to activate a ticket. Sometimes it activates more than one at once and I'm left having to spend more. I've Uninstalled and am still having issues. Most recently I had to call for a refund because when i scanned the QR code transferring busses, it activated the other ticket some how. Still waiting for that refund.

It works, but it’s a huge hassle to use. It takes very long for the app, ticket, and QR code to load, which means I have to start opening the app well before I even reach my bus stop so as to not obstruct other riders trying to board the bus, wasting mobile data and battery in the process. There is also no guarantee that I will be able to board the bus even if my ticket has been activated, since the ticket reader did not scan my QR code last time I tried boarding a bus.
