I have been using the free version for a few years now. I started using it when I was doing wilderness search and rescue, one of our training rules was to pause training when lightning is within 10 miles. This is especially true on the water, so I have continued to use it when I go paddleboarding. The app is super easy to use, set it up to notify you just how you want it, and show strikes up to 1 hour ago. I do wish it had a longer history for those midnight storms.

Works well, easy to use. Great for hunting, camping, and outdoor activities. However, I use it regularly to check on approaching storms within a 30 mile radius. The location chosen, not at my residence, but to alert for storms coming from typical direction. (Don't care once they pass.) I use 30 miles because lightning can strike up to 25 miles away. Worth it to buy the "PRO" version. It pays the developer's for their hard work! 10/27/25 Inexpensive, but GREAT app. Buy them some coffee!

Lightning Tracker (Pro) works as advertised for near real time notification of lighting. You can easily get alerts for strikes near you, and adjust the radius you consider 'near'. If you don't allow the app to track your location all the time, it will only alert on the location you last ran the app. However, allowing tracking will easily fix that or you can just open and shut the app if you are at all concerned about lighting.
