Offer can go up with on-time payments. Instant Transfers are available for a fee. Instant Transfers typically occur in seconds, but may take up to 30 minutes. Not all users will qualify.

Ratings and reviews

This app didn't work. Paid subscription fee & tried to use utilized the instant pay feature (5.00 fee for that) to find out it wasn't instant to your debit card or bank account and only to their account. Tried to set up bank account but it allows me to pay for subscription and not able to add bank account. Then I receive a account closure email and was only provided a link to a "list" of reasons of closure. Im trying to figure out a way to contact them to get my subscription fee refunded.

Went from absolutely no credit score in 2025 to a 732 score in 1 year and 4 months, with only 1 other builder account. Also have accumulated roughly $600 from the cash back rewards. Great for credit building. I use the direct deposit for the membership fee to be waived. I've never had any issues where I needed to contact customer service, so I can't actually tell you if they are good or bad. All in all, this is a good credit builder and an excellent option for kids under 18 and adults too.

I'm revising my rating. I've had nothing but problems with Step the past couple of months & customer service is non existent. Won't let me apply for borrow because it won't let me connect the banking app where I get way more than the necessary amount in deposits a month. Can't get a hold of customer service. I no longer recommend Step banking.
