Best mandarin learning app, worth paying for, but Ide like a bit more customisability. The app is free to try but to progress youll need the yearly basic subscription, the more general apps like duolingo dont really cover chinese very well as theres a lot of added context that needs explaining. To improve Ide really like to be able to turn more features on and off, they kind of have this for pinyin/hanzi but personally I only want to speak/listen for my partner and don't really care to write etc

a very well designed app. no irritating ads, and the lessons are easy to follow and progress through. unlike in duo, they don't repeat every lesson word and grammar point 100x for rote memory style, which is honesty a breath of fresh air. the Convo and story style learning series is very interesting (they have 500+ stories, payed and free) and a podcast..! i also installed their korean learning app - which is similar and nice to follow.

I stopped using the app for a while and when I came back, they changed a lot. I thought the version I was using last year was great. I'm not an AI hater but these new images are just weird. There was nothing wrong with the old ones. Also, they hid the literal translations, and removed things and made the early lessons unnecessarily difficult. These changes are pointless, and make the app worse. I was considering going premium but no more, this is not very good.
