About this game

Grim Tides tries to blend tabletop RPG vibes, familiar dungeon crawling and roguelike mechanics, and a classic turn-based combat system into an accessible and entertaining package. Because of its attention to written storytelling, detailed worldbuilding and abundance of lore, Grim Tides can be similar to a solo Dungeons and Dragons campaign, or even a choose your own adventure book.

Grim Tides is a single player game and can be played offline. It has no lootboxes, energy bars, overpriced cosmetics, content locked behind endless microtransactions, or other modern monetization schemes. Just some unobtrusive ads, permanently removable with a one-time purchase, and completely optional goodies for those who wish to support the game and its development even further.

I gave it a decent try. I even supported them by buying a starter pack because I just like small project games. The game has a story and easy to understand mechanics. But it's just a grind. There are randomly generated dungeons you go through literally hundreds of them, fighting slight variations of the same monsters hundreds of times till your character hits a level to unlock more of the story. Lots of games have grindy parts, but this one appears to be a grind all the way through.

Great game, really, though it does have mechanics with skills that doesn't make sense such as they are limited, the original game (Grim quest) didn't have that and what's stopping someone from realistically swinging an axe really hard. plus another like nibble grace where you have a chance to dodge enemy abilities, sounds pretty good right? well this only works if you have equipped a stabbing type weapon like a spear or a dagger, if these little flaws where fixed this game be worthy of 5 stars.

It has been fun. There was a good solid list of enemies and a variety of ways to dispatch them . They aren't just in dungeon locations, but on the ocean and in arenas. You can also give your character stats and perks to suit. Some of the perks are really fun to try out. The enemies do scale up with your level, so it can get annoying, though.
