Ratings and reviews

It has a lot of advanced functionality and configuration options but the Android version is missing some seemingly basic must-have options like auto-backups, view/restore revisions, widgets and more. A lot of this can be solved with plugins but most plugins only work on PC and I hardly use one anymore. I love the sync options especially WebDav. If not for a few of the mentioned shortcomings this would easily be a 4 or 5 star app.

You should only use the app if you do not use sync between devices. If you do use sync be ready to lose your notes. It will delete stuff it should not. The app has the worst sync implementation I have ever experienced. For example, simply enabling synchronization on Android to an empty location may result in files being deleted because it thinks the new empty folder is the source it should sync from. So the standalone note taking is excellent, 5 stars. Add sync, get document shredder app.

F*%k evernote! Joplin to the rescue. I'd been using evernote for maybe 15 years. But, as with what has happened to so many promising and wonderful apps, the profit motive got too strong and they started to charge too much and provide things that served no purpose but caused constant issues. I moved to Joplin, prefering open source products anyway, and am loving it. I synced it to my OneDrive and have had no issues. I do need to be mindful about intentionally syncing at times. Otherwise, perfect!
