About this app

Explore 4,000+ hikes with Washington state’s most trusted app. Get the latest trail conditions using our trip reports. Check for fires, air quality and snow levels with our map layers, and find good trails for hiking with kids, dogs, or wheelchairs with our search filters. Save the hikes you find to your account to access information offline.

We offer verified driving directions to trailheads and important info about required passes, permits and closure alerts, as well as personalized recommendations of hikes based on what you like. You can also post trip reports from your own hikes to track where you’ve been and help other hikers know what to expect.

GET OUTSIDE SAFELY
- Trailhead weather forecasts from NOAA help you know what the weather’s like on trail.
- See what on-trail conditions are like using snow, fire, and air quality layers on our maps.
- Red alerts highlight trail or road closures so you know about them before you get to the trailhead.
- Check trip reports to see current road and trail conditions and seasonal features like ripe berries or fall foliage.

FIND A HIKE
- Customize your search with filters for length, elevation gain, passes and what features you want to see on trail (waterfalls, rivers, great views, etc.).
- Use our kid-, dog- and wheelchair-friendly filters to find appropriate trails.
- Find hikes near you using your phone’s location or use WTA’s Hike Finder Map or region filters.
- Find hikes based on pass and permit requirements.
- Difficulty ratings help you decide if a hike is right for you.

MAKE AN ACCOUNT
Creating an account with WTA lets you save hike information for later, and access it offline, including the driving directions to the trailhead and detailed trail descriptions. You can also get personalized hike recommendations in your account based on where you like to hike. Plus, when you have an account, you can:
- Post your own trip reports and share the pictures you took on trail
- Like or comment on other users trip reports
- Sync your app activity with the web version of wta.org, where you can mark hikes as done and access our hike recommender. The more hikes you save and trip reports you write, the better the recommendations you get.

Unsure of what happened- an update? As of 4/2020 the app isn't showing about 75% of the images for hikes stored in my favorites. When I open the hike, I'm prompted to refresh then the images temporarily appear. Cannot access the images/maps/ directions while off line on the hike. I've had to use screenshots to save the info. Using a Samsung s10

Liked this app until today. I had previously saved the hike I was doing today because I knew I wouldn't have cell service at the trailhead. It is SUPPOSED to save basic information offline, such as driving directions and trail info. However, when I arrived at the trailhead and opened the app to check a detail on my hike, it said my session had timed out and I had to sign in. Um....that rather defeats the purpose of an app that will work offline. Needless to say, since I could not sign in due to no cell service, I could not look up the info I wanted to check. What am I supposed to do, sign in right before I leave home and then make sure to not close the app and HOPE I won't time out before I get to my hike? Very poorly designed "offline" hiking app. I will be looking for another one.

This app motivates me to get out onto new trails. I love supporting WTA. I do wish I could keep track of my completed hikes and/or reports, I don't see that as an option. Also it took me some time to learn how the search feature works. You have to sometimes try different search terms to find exactly what you're looking for, otherwise it will indicate no results for a trail that's actually in here under a different name.
