This app is great for vocabulary learning. The different questions help me check how well I know a character by presenting it a different way each time, so I confront that oh, I know how to say this but I can't recognize the character. The added videos have been useful for helping me recognize radicals in words, though it's written for simplified and I'm trying to learn traditional. Paid is expensive imo but I went for it because the style really works for me.

This is one of my favorite apps to learn to read Simplified Chinese characters! The free version presents you with about a dozen words each day, allowing you to try to read them yourself first, then reads it for you, along with pinyin pronunciation and the English equivalent. Occasionally, a video from the app creator will play, providing some history on how the characters in a common word or phrase came about, which helps me understand the characters better, and to remember them much better.

I have a few apps for learning Mandarin and they all have their individual style of teaching. what I like about Ginko is how easy to use and un-intimidating the user interface is right from the start. it has the same feel as some dating apps have were you flick the pictures left or right. but instead of "like, don't like" it's "I know this, I don't know this" and it moves as quickly or slowly as you want. each character pronounced by what sounds like native speakers. highly recommended!
