About this app

Kana Draw is a tool created to help you practice your Japanese hiragana and katakana writing and improve your character memorization skills. As all Japanese language students should know, stroke order is essential and needs to be known and implemented from the very beginning.

If you are looking for a tool to help you learn hiragana and katakana from scratch checkout my new application: "Kana Starter"
URL: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.lusil.kanastarter

Feature highlights include:

★ Hiragana and Katakana;
★ Practice and Test Modes;
★ Stroke directional support and step through;
★ Draw completely from memory (i.e. quizzing without template);
★ Accuracy statistics and goal-based progression;
★ Randomization based on Accuracy and Frequency;
★ Configurable Canvas.

Great app, it's been very helpful in helping me memorize both hiragana and katakana. The only improvement I would suggest is adding an option to have the romanji displayed with the corresponding character. It would help beginners link the correct sound with the correct character. Otherwise, a wonderful and surprisingly addictive app.

Nothing beats drawing by hand, but this is the next best thing. Kana Draw, combined with a flash card app, is a great way to learn Hiragana and Katakana. My only recommendation is that a few of the Hiragana symbols use a font more common with machines (text computers etc) vs what is taught for handwriting them (example SO in Hiragana). Maybe have traditional hand writing fonts as an available option.

It is a very good app for practicing kana (stroke order does matter if you want to learn Japanese). I have run into a bug a few times when practicing. Katakana was indicated (shows a "K"), I get it wrong and the Hiragana kana is shown as the correct answer. Otherwise,it's the best Kana app on Android.
