This app is ok, I guess. Once you get through the intro, you get daily lessons, but everything else is pay to play. The "games" are just swiping games and putting together sentences which is so basic for a language app. The general structure of the app is that you're given a phrase in English, the app says the phrase in japanese and then you select the Japanese words spelled out in the Roman alphabet. It's easy to not even consider the English translation and just select based on the sound element, but does that really teach you? There's no Introduction to sentence structure and you can play with using the kanji but there's no introduction to how to read hiragana, katakana or anything so it's just kind of frustrating. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, though it seems like a lot of people like it so Idk.
It's a poor man's duolingo - only got it because duolingo doesn't have Japanese. It has the repetition and game elements of duolingo, broken down into short lessons, which is great. However, you'll need to learn hiragana and katakana separately (admittedly pretty easy to do). Where the app falls down is its use of Kanji - it throws them in right from the start (even very advanced ones) , and doesn't use it consistently (eg uncle is sometimes done in hiragana and other times in Kanji). Also isn't good at introducing other new words, you sort of have to guess. Overall it's not great, but until duolingo gets Japanese it'll have to do.
Hi Today May 12, I purchased the 1 year subscription. The purchase was through the app and the play store. I may have keyed my email address wrong when I signed up. My Mondly user name is Bar-Abba. After using the free stuff for a few days I purchased the full 1year access. The purchase was working fine. I cleared the data and cache to clear up a sound issue. When I reopened the app and tried to login the app said the email address is invalid. Can you please help me to restore my purchase. Mahalo, Robert Andrise
Figure it out yourself. It's fine for learning if you wanna memorize everything. You will first need to figure out the words, and where they go in the sentence. You also need to figure out the different ways words are used too, like present tense vs past tense. There's also the issue that you need to figure out where the words go in the sentence, since it is a different language, after all. If you can do all that, download the app, and use it. The other people that may finger this useful, are people who already speak the language, and just don't wanna forget. Please rate this comment as helpful, so others can read it.
Seriously, it's ok but, the audio in some of the words are awful. Please fix it. Are you sure the ones in the korean are accurate? Cause i thought the mother is eomma and the father is appa. The brother and sister depends on how old you are and your gender. Everything else is fine.
Great app. But, on the ending where you can see the sphere on what you learned. Please let the thing you click stay at the targeted language until you click the screen a second time. I am not a blazing fast japanese reader and understander. 5 stars if update for this. Already subbed a full year
