From a tourist perspective: What is the actual purpose of this app? I had 2 days in DC and have not figured out the benefit of using this. I don't think it's intended for visitors. The setup asks for a trove of personal information, then when you try to buy a card it directs you to Google wallet. Well, Google wallet just lets you buy a card in their app without having to mess with this app. What's the point? Also, the metro charges a $2 fee to add funds through Google wallet, which is baloney

The app's purpose is to allow you to view the balance on your cards, add value, and plan trips. The $2 is the one-time non-refundable fee for the cost of the virtual card. Additionally, creating an account allows you to protect your balance if you need to transfer to a new card. If you have more questions, chat with us at wmata.com/chat -KB

A serviceable app with strange inconsistencies. The setup does take an unusual amount of time (and information), and I'm pretty sure there is a mismatch between the create-account password and the actual password requirmenys (i.e. USE TWO NUMBERS IN THE PW OR YOU'LL HAVE TO RESET IT). Once you're past that it is straightforward though, more or less. I wish there wasn't a card setup fee - makes the digital app kinda pointless when you need to "buy a card" anyway.

While not fully intuitive (and having to go through the terms and conditions a few times was annoying) I was able to configure my existing metro card and transfer it to my Google wallet in less than 10 minutes from start to finish. As that will be my primary way to access it moving forward, that's all I needed this app to do.
